TRADITION
In the past, Livigno experienced many centuries of isolation that somehow influenced the development of the area and facilitated the diffusion of
religious traditions. The
many little churches that inspired the names of the districts of Livigno witness the past of this town.
One of Livigno’s oldest traditions is
Carnival. Its roots can be found in the religious tradition and is one of the most attractive folklore events. Another important tradition (actually a tradition of many other towns in the area) is “
Gabinatt". On January 6 say the word "Gabinatt" whenever you meet someone at home or outside but beware! If you’re not quick enough and say it after someone says it to you, you've got to pay a forfeit!
